Memorial weekend

This Memorial weekend wasn't the most memorable weekend ever but we got something accomplished...remember the trash pile? (I'll take a moment to admit that dear sweet hubby was right in that we didn't need a dumpster - if you don't take in account the several trips to his sister's house to dump plaster, the loading and unloading, at an ungodly hour, of the lathing and sheet rock on free dump day and the pulling of nails, I'm sure we still saved money - right?) Yes, nails got pulled!

This pile of rubble has been reduced to

This!  All of this wood was what needed nails pulled because there are several projects that can be done with it...we all have our vices, right?  Dear hubby can't throw wood away...I may have to call hoarders if DIY doesn't get here soon...anyway, when you pull nails from all that wood this is the pile of nails you get.....

yes, he's saving these too...he says he has a plan......

more sheet rock got hung as well as the one roll of insulation (don't ask me why he only had one roll) got installed....

what a difference sheet rock makes!
one roll of insulation doesn't go far but at least that much is done....

The boy and I went and flew a kite....

My hero

The Boy reports that his dad has a scary accurate aim with knives when he's mad.  Seems as though dear hubby had a REALLY bad morning.

Dear Hubby and The Boy were hanging a couple pieces of rock this morning before The Boy had to go to Vo-Tech.  The first piece they hung resulted in my dear sweet hubby smashing his pinky really, really hard with the hammer...

he continued trying to work on the kitchen while he had The Boy's help and went to hang another piece on the ceiling.  When he hung this piece, he decided to stand on the lone cabinet, which resulted in the cabinet breaking.....

the report from The Boy is that his dad seems to have some monkey in him as well 'cause when the cabinet fell dear hubby grabbed a ceiling joist and swung and jumped so he didn't hurt himself even more.  The monkey swinging knocked the drill that was being used off of the ladder, which knocked the bit out of the drill - they still haven't found the bit.

Dear Hubby decided to quit for the day...

he'll finish after this heals up...we're wondering if the nail is a gonner, we're pretty sure the finger is broken...

even after all of that, dear hubby and I delivered food to five families today.  At the last family's apartment complex he noticed a woman and her husband that were having a hard time getting their wheelchair scooters in their front door.  What did he do?  He stopped and helped (actually he just did it) get the scooters in the front door....during which he smashed his finger three or four times again.

 He's my hero!

more sheetrock

I'm not giving dear hubby enough credit.  See that piece of wood leaning up against the corner with the other smaller piece on the end? He uses that to hold the piece up there while he screws it in.  I'm not sure how he's getting the rock up there without making holes that he doesn't want.

last post this is what you saw....

this is what dear hubby has gotten done between other projects this week...someday I'll get to think about paint...for now I'm going to celebrate every sign of progress.

sheetrock

Three months since we obtained the cabinets and appliances and two months since tear out began, dear hubby has begun to hang sheet rock. (I'd like to take a moment to thank Cheryl for getting me into this mess. Luv ya!) I know sheet rock leads to another dust storm, but you gotta take the good with the bad, right? Besides, I have a feeling it's gonna be awhile before I have to deal with the threat of dust devils. Without further ado...here are my best efforts at pics:

working his way towards the sink, eventually the sink will have to come out...not looking forward to that....

that's using your noggin' dear....

still usin' that noggin'....did I mention how much he loves me taking pictures while he's working?  :-)

The Boy has it rough....he is expected to help when dad calls.  Generally, The Boy's job is to sit and watch a netflix flick and press pause when dear ole dad calls.  When Dad calls though he better be Jimmy on the Spot, 'cause that means it's time to bring another sheet in, or help is needed in keeping a sheet in place until a few screws are attached and his dad can take it from there.

we really are going to have a 3/4 bath, which I think will have about 2x the amount of space to move around in as you have in an airplane...

another shot of the new bath area...next to that is where the double oven will be and behind that will be a pantry.

the new entry and where the closet to the middle bedroom used to be....

it's a start...there's more to go....

this is a preview of my next blog...the state of the floor.....
